We have chosen to help in the support of the Center of HOPE Worldwide in the Philippines. One out of every three Filipino children is abused before they reach the age of 14. There are approximately 75,000 street children that are without basic needs, many of whom are involved in drugs and/or prostitution. 40,000 children are involved in Child Sexual Exploitation throughout this country and on any given day, about 250 children die of preventable diseases. The Center of HOPE Worldwide targets its efforts to abused children and serves approximately 100 clients a year. The HOPE staff at the village specializes in helping children between the ages of 4 to 14 that have been victims of sexual abuse.

The Center offers these children residential care and treatment to help them in the healing process. Residential care is provided through the family approach and each child is given a father and mother (house parents) along with many other brothers and sisters. The staff, composed of a trained and committed individuals, uses the team approach insuring that the need of each child is met.

The Center uses an aggressive placement strategy to meet the never ending need for enrollment of new children into the facility. Reintegration of the children to their families is always the first choice of action and sometimes involves the removal of the perpetrator involved in the abuse. The center is also developing a nationwide foster family care network which is providing homes for those children that are not allowed to go back to their families and those without family to go back to.

Besides doing all of this work at the center, HOPE Worldwide–Philippines also uses programs such as the HOPE Mobile Puppet Theater, HOPE Youth Centers and Community Based Treatment Programs to work towards the prevention of child sexual abuse in urban poor communities. After personally witnessing the Center of HOPE Worldwide Philippines and the sacrificial work that this organization does for these children, we are committed to help HOPE Worldwide in their efforts to assisting these children to heal from abuse and help them become responsible and contributing members of society.
